Gallery Henoch to Display Sharon Sprung, Janet Rickus Exhibits
By: Matt Smith Nov. 19, 2015
Sharon Sprung's vivid painting of hand-crafted Tibetan and Chinese boxes, which the artist started collecting over the last 3 years, is part of the Still Life show now on view at Gallery Henoch. Sprung's interest in dense pattern on fabric led her to become intrigued by these painterly boxes - how their luscious colors transform patterns into an almost mystical aesthetic experience. After considering the enigmatic origin of the boxes - their makers remain anonymous - Sprung realized she could, as the Confucian saying implies, understand these boxes through painting them.
