The music division of Library of Congress has done several "A Conversation With..." pieces on famous musicians, lyricists and contributors to not only the music scene but also the musical theatre community. In this video the Library of Congress sits down with writer, musician, film composer and over all legendary man RANDY NEWMAN.

Randy Newman sat down to discuss his musical process and how some of his iconic songs were written. He tells the Library of Congress that he, "starts at the piano. I start at the piano and I go in, in the morning with song writing and I work four hours and just stay there. Now, that's the ideal."

He also discussed how he comes up with the iconic melodies within his songs. When asked whether he can tell if a portion of the song would work best on a certain instrument, Mr. Newman responded with, "It's something that comes later. Sometimes I'll change the song."

Randy Newman also talked about all of his albums and how the songs came about and his process. For the entire hour long conversation with Randy Newman click below and be sure to check out more "A Conversation With..." pieces as part of the Library of Congress.
