Flushing Town Hall Presents Fairy Tale's Creative World Music from Korea on December 1

On Friday, December 1, Flushing Town Hall presents Fairy Tale, a creative Korean ensemble whose music is inspired by traditional Korean poems and songs. By transforming the old and conservative image of Korean traditional music, Fairy Tale has been a major contributor to the popularization of Korean traditional music and helps to find a place for traditional music in modern Korean pop culture.

Fairy Tale features traditional Korean instruments such as the daegum (a Korean bamboo flute, played by Seo Youseok), the geomungo (a Korean folk zither, played by Choi Jinyoung), and the haegum (a Korean fiddle, played by Ko Yunjin). Fairytale also includes percussions (played by Kim Kyuyoun), the piano (played by Oh Youngjin), and vocal song (by Jang Myeongseo).

Fairy Tale was formed in 2011 and released three albums so far. Their latest album "The Land of Poet,"released in December 2016, delivers stories, healing messages, and sentimental feelings of Korean poems and jeongga, one of three great traditional Korean vocal music genres along with pansori and minyo.

Flushing Town Hall will be the first stop on their North American Tour, which later includes stops in Tenafly, N.J., Stony Brook. N.Y., Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

This season, Flushing Town Hall is opening its doors to teenagers - for FREE. Under the "Teen Access Program", all 13- to 19-year-old boys and girls (whether a member or not) will be welcomed to attend any performance for free with a student I.D. The program is designed to appeal to students and help foster a greater love in the arts and culture.
