Elders in Residence on Governors Island

Join Peggy Shaw and Lois Weaver of Split Britches in their new performance. Lois and Peggy have been in residence at the Barbican Centre, in London, researching and developing a new performance about the risks of unexplored potential buried within us; often Unexploded Ordnances (UXO) more deeply as we age.

This project is inspired by Governors Island, an ex-military base in the NY Harbour where you are not able to scratch more than one inch below the ground surface because of the possible presence of buried weapons (UXO) dating back to the civil war.

Explored through performance, installation and conversation, Lois Weaver and Peggy Shaw will develop an intergenerational work around ageing, unexplored desire, unexpressed.

Drop in sessions will be held Thursday through Sunday from 1pm-5pm to contribute to the tensions and how we 'look forward' in a world with an uncertain future. A final performance will be held at at LaMaMa in October.

Founded in New York in 1980 with Deb Margolin, Split Britches continues with the duo and solo work of Lois Weaver and Peggy Shaw which spans satirical, gender-bending performance, methods for public engagement, videography, digital and print media, explorations of ageing and well being, and iconic feminist theatre.
