El Capitan Theatre To Celebrate Centennial with Disney's THE ROCKETEER

Returning to celebrate the Centennial of the El Capitan Theatre, Disney’s home on Hollywood Boulevard, is Disney’s “The Rocketeer” on Monday June 1 at 7:00pm.

Before the movie, guests can enjoy a Q&A with Director Joe Johnston and Executive Producer Larry Franko, moderated by Leonard Maltin.

The discovery of a top-secret jetpack hurls test pilot Cliff Secord into a daring adventure of mystery, suspense and intrigue. Cliff encounters an assortment of ruthless villains, led by a Hollywood screen star who's a secret Nazi spy (Timothy Dalton). With the help of his actress girlfriend, the young pilot battles enormous odds to defeat his foes, who are anxious to use the device in an evil plan to rule the world. The dangerous mission transforms the ordinary young man into an extraordinary hero.

Dubbed "Hollywood's First Home of Spoken Drama," the El Capitan Theatre made its debut as the largest legitimate theatre in Hollywood on May 3, 1926. Stars filled the 1,550 seat theatre for the premiere of the fresh-from-Broadway play “Charlot’s Revue,” starring Jack Buchanan, Gertrude Lawrence and Beatrice Lillie.

In 1989, the Walt Disney Company joined forces with Pacific Theatres and began a two-year, remodel of the El Capitan Theatre – which brought the theatre to how we know it today.  The remodel was led by renowned theatre designer Joseph J. Musil with the supervision of the National Park Service's Department of the Interior, and guidance from conservator Martin Weil and architect Ed Fields.

When the El Capitan Theatre re-opened in 1991 after this grand scale restoration, the first feature to premiere was Disney’s “The Rocketeer.”

A new archival display will be featured inside the theatre and includes rarely seen models of the theatre’s restoration made by Musil. Also debuting will be a brand-new curtain show – with a special nod to the motifs and designs of the original curtains. This wonderful new curtain show will debut with a soundtrack that highlights the theatre’s historic story.

Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at El Capitan Theatre's website. Tickets are $50, and include a reserved seat, popcorn, fountain drink, event credential, and mini print.
