EDINBURGH 2018: BWW Q&A- Matt Winning

BWW catches up with Matt Winning to chat about bringing Climate Strange to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Climate Strange.

It's a show about what the main individual personal actions are on climate change. What you can do about it as a person but also as a member of society. And also I'll talk from a psychological perspective about why it has been such a tough issue to solve.

What do you hope audiences take away from the show?

Well, quite a few things. Mostly that they have fun. But, I also hope they leave understanding what the biggest actions are and importantly that they feel more empowered to do something themselves, while, being more emotionally engaged in the issue. You'll have to come and see it for the specifics.

What sets Climate Strange apart from other comedy shows at the festival?

Well, it's about a very important issue which affects us all while not being about a sad event that happened to me (mostly).

Where else might we know you from?

Perhaps as the environmental correspondent on Unspun with Matt Forde or in Josie Long's new film Super November. Or, from School or University if you went to school in Johnstone or University in Edinburgh or Glasgow. I might have even taught you economics. But, likely from doing stand-up about Robert Mugabe.

Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch in Edinburgh?

Absolutely. Very much looking forward to seeing Luke McQueen, Alison Spittle, Grainne Maguire, Alex Farrow, Eleanor Morton, Ian Smith and Joey Page. I've heard a lot about Buckle Williams show "One, two, buckle my A******e" at the Lobster Pot on the £3 Fringe. In terms of plays, I will being going to see Revelations by James Rowland and The Journey by Stuart Laws.
