EDINBURGH 2018: BWW Q&A- Joe Sutherland

BWW catches up with Joe Sutherland to talk about bringing Toxic to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Toxic.

It's a powerful piece of theatre in homage to our lady the divine Britney, performed through the medium of stand-up comedy with jokes about masculinity, gender and bogies.

Why do you think now is the right time for this show?

I hope that more men are taking stock of their behaviour and their responsibilities as humans on this little ball that we call home.

I always thought I was the bestest man, the most feminist, the biggest ally but it's dawned on me that I'm just as stinky, rude and full of bogies as the next man. So, perhaps it's time to acknowledge that in some way in order to actually be a better humanoid.

Who do you think should come and see Toxic?

Anyone who likes laughing, loads. It's not a difficult or ranty show - I'm just trying to find the funny in things that we can all relate to and sneak in a little message at the end.

What do you hope audiences take away from Toxic?

That Geri Halliwell is sisingle-handedlyesponsible for the invention of millennials.

Having performed at the festival last year do you think you know what to expect?

I've become very good at performing to less than ten people, so if I have any sell-outs this year then I'll feel quite uncomfortable.
