EDINBURGH 2017: BWW Q&A- Steve Bugeja

Tell us a bit about Summer Camp.
Summer Camp is the true story of when I was 18 I worked on a kids summer camp in Pennsylvania, USA. As a naive, immature and unprepared 18 year old, I was put in charge of the welfare of American teenagers for 6 weeks. Terrible idea. Eight years on I've been able to reflect on one of the most fulfilling, surprising and stressful summers of my life and hopefully turn it into a funny show.
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
I love doing the fringe, it's my favourite month of the year. I'm in the Tron again this year, which I think is one of the best rooms for Stand-up at the festival. This is my third solo show now and i love seeing audience members come back who've watched the first two shows, makes all the work seem worthwhile.
What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?
I always want my shows to be more than just some stand-up routines strung together. This particular show is a narrative based on true events and deals with issues that I think will resonate with people of all ages. I hope that the audience will leave feeling like they've been on an emotional journey as well as had a laugh. (Sorry that sounded incredibly pretentious).
Who would you recommend comes to see you?
Genuinely anyone. Obviously people who have worked on summer camps themselves will enjoy the show, but i think anyone will relate to the story.
Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?
I'm going to try catch some non-comedy stuff this year, more theatre things. Might go check out Ladyboys of Bangkok, every year I say I'll go, but never do, this year is the year.
Steve Bugeja: Summer Camp comes to Just the Tonic at The Tron, 5pm 3rd - 27th August (except 14th) as part of the Edinburgh Fringe.
