Tell us a bit about the show

The world of Stegosaurus is incredibly familiar to millions while being more alien and lonely than the moon. It's a play about a woman's struggle with eating disorders and mental ill-health. It's also the lived experience of Greek playwright Ersi Niaoti. The authenticity is compelling - it's a story of exposed bones, black coffee, cigarettes and self-loathing. But what I love about the play is that it also has plenty of humour and (most important of all) a sense of hope.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

I love the story, it's very strong and honest and I'm very eager and proud to share it with the world. I want to give people a truthful but also artistic perspective of the struggles someone with eating disorders is facing. Doing so in the 70th anniversary of the biggest performing arts festival in the world, in front of international audience, is a dream come true for any artist.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

It's raw, brutal, funny, very emotional and has never been performed in the UK before. But I would like to also point out the fact that it is a real story. That alone sets it apart to a big extent. Everything that the audience will see or hear during the play has happened before in real life. After the play ends the audience will have a truthful understanding of how a person's life with eating disorders and mental health issues is.

Who would you recommend comes to see you?

Anyone interested in the human experience of someone who doesn't fit in the world. I would also definitely recommend it to people who have someone in their close environment with a mental health issue such as depression or eating disorder. Lastly anyone who wants to see a new piece of modern Greek theatre.

Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?

I am hoping to see as many shows as possible but it would feel unfair to call specific ones out. I am very excited to be in this festival and I have already booked ticket for many different shows, from cabaret and stand up comedy to drama and new writing.

Timings and ticket information for Stegosaurus are available on the edfringe website.
