EDINBURGH 2017: BWW Q&A- Losers
Tell us a bit about your show.
It's late-night, it's rowdy and it's not for the faint-hearted. Losers is a cross between a high-stakes drinking game and an unethical 1950s psychology experiment, exposing the dark side of reality TV. Armed with electronic voting handsets, the audience makes the decisions about which contestants fly...and which ones get punished. We won't beat around the bush: it gets pretty brutal.
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
We couldn't really turn Underbelly down. Getting a late-night Edinburgh slot has always been a goal; due to the show's interactive nature, we can't wait to see what happens when it's inevitably experienced by some of our most lively (and drunken) crowds ever. We also want to try haggis.
What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?
We do dodgy things with buckets of ice cubes, industrial staple guns and food not suitable for human consumption. The performers don't play fictional characters in the show, they're 'themselves' - and every punishment inflicted on the 'losers' of the various competitions are real, not acted. The results of every audience vote have genuine (often messy) consequences, and that's where it gets interesting.
Who would you recommend comes to see your show?
We'd be a great start to a rowdy Edinburgh night out - there's ample Destiny's Child sing-a-longs, outrageous variety acts and confetti. We're also suitable for anyone who wants to be challenged, surprised and simultaneously disgusted: we're not following a script, so a hell of a lot can happen...
Are there any other performances you're hoping to catch at the festival?
So many. We're looking forward to our Warwick peers' Suspicious Minds at the Pleasance Dome (17.30) - those guys are very talented. Plus, obviously, Fleabag - which interestingly started back in 2013 at the exact Underbelly venue (Big Belly) we're performing in. Big boots to fill...
