What have you been up to since your last appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

Since last Fringe we have been touring around lots so I now have a few new cities to tick off the list. We have also created two new works, one of them being Humans (the show we are doing this year). We premiered Humans at the amazing Sydney Festival and then we took it to Glastonbury - it was great to get it in front of a UK audience. I'm excited to be back in Edinburgh performing a new show.

Tell us a bit about your new show Humans.

Humans was birthed in a 40 degree tent with no cooling system in the peak of an Australian summer... From get go it was always a different kind of work. There are 10 acrobats on stage and the show is an incredible exploration of what it means to be human and how our bodies form who we are. One of the great things about Circa shows is that our personalities are very evident during our performances. The show explores our physical limits as we push our bodies to the extreme seeing how much weight we can carry, who we trust to support us and who we want to lead on. It's a very special piece. And the beautiful thing about the Edinburgh Fringe is that you get to be a part of this diverse line-up.

What sets it apart from other circus performances at the festival?

Circa have always been known for their stripped back circus of the heart. I think Humans really goes back to the core of what Circa is about. There are a lot of circus shows at the Fringe which is fantastic and the appetite for circus is really growing but there's something a bit special about a Circa show. People are often really moved by the way we use our bodies and connect with each other on stage.

What is so special about an Edinburgh audience?

You never know what you're going to get with a Fringe audience. They're such a mixed bunch - one day they're quiet and watching in a thoughtful, contemplative way. The next they're screaming with excitement after every trick. Edinburgh audiences are always really enthusiastic at the end of the show though which is great and a really rewarding feeling.

How has reception for Humans been so far?

We have played in a variety of different theatres this tour and the response has been great! We've been coming to Edinburgh for a few years now so people are familiar with Circa which is fantastic so I'm excited to present the show to them.

Timings and ticket information for Circa: Humans are available on the edfringe website.
