EDINBURGH 2017: BWW Q&A- Ava Rage
Tell us a bit about Ava Rage
Ava Rage is a blend of stand-up, music and clown exploring coming to terms with being average. Its my personal experience of feeling overwhelmed with choice and paralysed with indecision, FOMO, jealousy, and my addiction to TED talks.
I wanted to really hone the show and material by performing every day for a month. There's no other time in the year I get to do that so this is like a comedians bootcamp for me. I also love the festival as a punter so I get to combine two of my favourite things.What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?
I suppose if I was trying to write the show's USP, it would be that it has a bit of everything comedically - sketch, character, clown, stand-up and music and its woven together into a narrative so audiences hopefully come out feeling uplifted. I am also channelling the Ed SHeeran in me and using a loop pedal but in a silly, tongue in cheek way. Ava strives for perfection but always falls short. I think there's a bit of all of us in her.
I'm often surprised by who enjoys my stuff so I would say anyone! But that's a cop out. Anyone who has ever felt like they should be doing more with their life and anyone who has ever been on hold (that's basically anyone again isn't it??) Just come to the show!Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?
So many! Kat Bond, Lucy Farrett, Tessa Coates are all hilarious ladies with solo character shows this year. Bear Pack and Jacuzzi improv shows are certain to be amazing. Nathan Lang, Lucy Hopkins, the Kagools do wonderful clowning. I will definitely see Tamar Broadbent and Rachel Parris, two of my favourite musical comedians.
