EDINBURGH 2017: BWW Q&A- Ahir Shah

Tell us a bit about your show.

I'm performing a stand-up show called Control. It's about the resurgent reactionary past, the precarious possible, and milk. I'm a political comedian, so the last year has been useful from a creative perspective and absolutely abysmal from every other perspective.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

It's just sort of the thing to do, isn't it? I don't really know what I'd do with my Augusts if I didn't come to the Edinburgh Fringe. I gather other people go on holiday with loved ones, but I prefer constant drizzle and anxiety.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

I wrote it. There are thousands of other shows at the Fringe, and I didn't write any of them. I'd hate for people to go to a student production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and leave disappointed, thinking "Oh, I thought Ahir wrote that." I didn't. I've only written this.

Who would you recommend comes to see you?

People who aren't too thrilled about the current direction of, y'know, the world.

Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?

I look forward to seeing what my friends have been working on; I look forward to seeing my one annual Piece Of Proper Theatre; I look forward to seeing the shows you overhear people talking about excitedly over pints at the end of an evening.
