Drumstruck Goes Silent After November 12 Performance

Drumstruck, billed as "the world's first interactive drum-theatre experience," will close Off-Broadway on November 12th after having run for a year and a half.

The show, which plays New World Stages Stage 2 (340 West 50th Street, NYC, is directed by David Warren and features 11 South and West African percussionists.  It began preview performances on May 12, 2005, and officially opened on June 16, 2005.

Drumstruck "provides a 2-foot-tall drum on every seat - and the entire audience gets the chance to make music together. Featuring 11 South and West African percussionists, they start the show with a pulse-racing bang: song, dance and eye blurring drum performances. Then they lead the audience in an exhilarating experience of exuberant African drumming," according to press notes on the show, which originated in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1997.  It was conceived by Warren Lieberman.

The show features Nicholas "Africa" Djanie, Nicollette Sebatane, Emmanuel Nathi Kumalo, Enock Bafana Mahlangu, Tiny Modise, Benjamin Handel, Simon Letsoela, Dikeledi Mathibela, Molutsi Mogami, John Tommy Moremogolo, Molebeledi "Sponch" Mogapi and Leeanet Noble.   It is produced by Drum Café, Dodger Theatricals and Visual Spirit in association with Amy J. Moore

The show is recommended for ages 5+. The running time is 90 minutes with no intermission.
