According to the official website for the ABC show, "Dancing with the Stars," over fourteen members from the cast of the film adaptation of Dreamgirls will be performing on tonight's result show at 9pm. Most likely, ensemble members will be performing a few dance numbers in the style of the motion picture to promote the DVD release of the Oscar-winning film, Dreamgirls, set to hit stores on May 1st, 2007.   Joss Stone will also guest star.

According to the "Dancing with the Stars" website, the show is "hosted by Tom Bergeron ('America's Funniest Home Videos') and Samantha Harris (E! Entertainment).  Celebrities perform choreographed dance routines which are judged by renowned Ballroom judge Len Goodman and dancer/choreographers Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.  'Dancing with the Stars' is the U.S. version of the international smash hit series, Strictly Come Dancing. This version is produced in America by BBC Worldwide. Conrad Green and Richard Hopkins are executive producers and Izzie Pick is co-executive producer. Rob Wade and Matilda Zoltowski are supervising producers. Alex Rudzinski directs."

Dreamgirls, with a score by Henry Krieger and Tom Eyen and an adapted screenplay by director Bill Condon, starred Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles, Anika Noni Rose, and Jamie Foxx.  It was produced by Dreamworks.

After three roadshow engagements in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, Dreamgirls opened in nationwide limited release on December 25th, 2006, and went into wide release on January 12th.  "Set in the turbulent early 1960s to mid-70s, Dreamgirls follows the rise of a trio of women -- Effie (Hudson), Deena (Knowles) and Lorrell (Rose) -- who have formed a promising girl group called The Dreamettes.  At a talent competition, they are discovered by an ambitious manager named Curtis Taylor, Jr. (Foxx), who offers them the opportunity of a lifetime: to become the back-up singers for headliner James "Thunder" Early (Murphy).  Curtis gradually takes control of the girls' look and sound, eventually giving them their own shot in the spotlight as The Dreams.  That spotlight, however, begins to narrow in on Deena, finally pushing the less attractive Effie out altogether.  Though the Dreams become a crossover phenomenon, they soon realize that the cost of fame and fortune may be higher than they ever imagined," state press materials.
