Debbie Gravitte Defies Gravity in Third Solo Album

Defying Gravity, the third solo recording by Tony Award-winning Broadway belter Debbie Gravitte, will be released in stores this month.

The CD, which follows The MGM Album and The Alan Menken Album, is Gravitte's first on the Jay label.  According to the star, the album features the first symphonic recording of the Wicked anthem "Defying Gravity," as well as songs from seven of the eight Broadway shows in which Gravitte has been featured.

Gravitte received a 1989 Tony Award for her performance(s) in Jerome Robbins' Broadway.  She most recently played the earthy Matron "Mama" Morton in Chicago, and her previous Broadway credits include Ain't Broadway Grand, Les Miserables, Zorba, Blues in the Night, Perfectly Frank and They're Playing Our Song.  Other credits include the Encores! production of The Boys from Syracuse and the L.A. premiere of The Goodbye Girl.
