Culture Project Welcomes Comedian Farsad in New Series 10/5

By:

Culture Project has announced that Iranian-American comedian Negin Farsad will host a weekly comedy night of funny ladies, "Dirty Immigrant Collective," every Friday night at 10PM at Culture Project's SoHo space (55 Mercer Street), beginning October 5.

"Farsad will perform her own material (exploiting her Middle Eastern background as frequently as possible) and introduce her favorite comedians of (hilariously) marginalized decent, including Desiree Lea Burch, Katie Halper and Rebecca Donohue," explain press notes.

As a standup comedian Farsad has opened for the likes of Al Franken in venues like the Laugh Factory and Town Hall in New York and the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. She has provided original comedy content for Pacifica and Sirius Radio stations, and has been an active comedian and producer for over ten years with sketch comedy groups "Madame Funnypants" and "Three Jews and a Persian," earning a nomination for the Emerging Comics of New York Awards. Currently she's producing and directing (and even making an appearance in) the new Comedy Central series, "The Watch List," the first-ever mainstream network pilot to feature a Middle Eastern-American cast.

"Dirty Immigrant Collective" is a new endeavor for Women Center Stage, which is usually presented by Culture Project as an annual summer festival which gathers artists, activists, thinkers and other crucial voices to share stories and ideas and challenge one another to act and react.  This summer, the 11th annual WCS festival events included theater, film, comedy and music with participants like Eve Ensler, Marisa Tomei, Olivia Wilde, Samantha Power and Julie Goldman.

Tickets for "Dirty Immigrant Collective" are $12 and are available by visiting www.cultureproject.org or calling 212-925-1900.
