Clark Directs Sachon in Birdland Debut, November 6

Acclaimed American cellist Peter Sachon will make his Birdland debut in a program entitled: "Peter Sachon - Strings Attached" on Monday, November 6 at 7PM.  The evening will be presented by Jim Caruso and TheaterMania.com.

The program, which will include both contemporary and classical pieces, will be directed by Tony Award-winning actress, Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza). The evening will feature vocal performances by Clark and Michael Winther, with Dan Lipton on piano.

Sachon's diverse career has included performances with The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Audra McDonald, Deborah Voight, Victoria Clark, Pink Martini, and Dee Snider. He performed in and can be heard on the recordings of the Broadway productions of The Light in the Piazza and Fiddler on the Roof. This fall, he will join the Broadway production of Tom Kitt and Amanda Green's new musical High Fidelity. Sachon has commissioned and premiered many new works for the cello by such composers as Stephen Schwartz, Stephen Flaherty, Ricky Ian Gordon, Jeff Marx, Michael John LaChiusa, and George Stiles.

Clark received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her work in The Light in the Piazza. Other Broadway shows have included Sunday in the Park with George, Titanic, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Urinetown, Cabaret, and A Grand Night for Singing. Clark received her Masters Degree in Directing from NYU and has directed various operas throughout the country. She recently directed "Serenade in Blue: The Lyrics of Mack Gordon" at the 92nd Street Y's popular Lyric and Lyricists series.

Winther has appeared on Broadway in Mamma Mia!, 1776, The Crucible, Artist Descending a Staircase, and Damn Yankees. In 2005, Winther received a Drama Desk nomination for his starring role in Songs from an Unmade Bed (NYTW/CD on Ghostlight Records). His other Off-Broadway shows include Radiant Baby (NYSF/Public), Hapgood (Lincoln Center Theatre), Berlin to Broadway, Forever Plaid, and Tony 'n Tina's Wedding (co-creator, original cast).

Lipton is a songwriter, arranger, and musician, whose diverse career bridges pop music, film work, and theatrical projects. He has recorded three albums: "Travelogue," "Life in Pictures," and "Zeitgeist." He has performed on the Grammy-nominated cast albums of The Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. With David Rossmer, he is the co-author of the musicals Joe! and Notes to Marianne. Lipton has accompanied Audra McDonald in concert halls across the country.
