Civilian's Spring Benefit There's No Place Like Home Held 4/17 In DUMBO

By: Apr. 09, 2009

The Civilians' Spring Benefit, "There's No Place Like Home" will be held Friday, April 17th at Galapagos Art Space, DUMBO, Brooklyn
This year's benefit follows the themes of home and community that The Civilians have been exploring in recent projects such as Brooklyn at Eye Level and This Beautiful City. The evening will include a one-night-only performance with original material developed from audience member submissions about what home means to them.

Additionally, Associate Artists will perform songs from past Civilians show. Liquor sponsors for the event include Bedell Cellers and Chopin Vodka. There is a special $25 ticket price for the After Party, which begins at 10:00pm.
The Civilians are pleased to be hosting this year's benefit in Brooklyn, where they spent much of the season researching and interviewing for Brooklyn at Eye Level. The Benefit's Honorary Committee includes such notable Brooklyn figures as City Council Member Letitia James and Fifth Avenue Committee Executive Director Michelle de la Uz as well as Brooklyn-based artists Jonathan Lethem, Lynn Nottage and Carl Hancock Rux. The committee also long-time Civilians supporters John Guare, Jonathan Marc Sherman and Sherie Renee Scott.

Galapagos Art Space's new location in DUMBO is on target to become New York City's first LEED certified 'green' cultural venue. It has a 1600 square-foot lake, island seating on the lake, and the lake is surrounded by a wrap around mezzanine with operatic 'box-style' seating. Galapagos seeks to create audiences for the artists they present and help expand the cultural environment for the benefit of the community we live in.
