Cho's 'Durango' Begins Previews at the Public, Nov. 7

The world premiere of Julia Cho's Durango, a new drama about family and the American Dream, directed by Chay Yew, will begin previews at the Public Theater on November 7th.  A co-production with The Long Wharf Theater, Durango will have its press opening on November 19th.

In an effort to further its mission of accessibility, The Public will offer $10 Thursdays during the run of Durango.  All seats for Thursday performances will be $10; tickets will go on sale the day of the performance.

"In Durango, single father Boo-Seng decides it's time for a family road trip to Durango, Colorado. As he and his two teenage sons get closer to their destination, secrets are revealed that intensify the sons' struggle with growing up in the shadow of their father, who left Korea to pursue the American Dream. From the award-winning playwright who brought you BFE, Durango is new American drama at its best," state press materials. 

Durango features scenic design by Dan Ostling, costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by Paul Whitaker, sound design by Fabian Obispo.

Cho's other plays include The Piano Teacher, BFE and 99 Histories.  Her honors include the 2005 Barrie Stavis Award, the 2005 Claire Tow Award for Emerging Artists and the 2004 L. Arnold Weissberger Award. She has also received a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant and was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. An alumna of NYU's Graduate Dramatic Writing Program and The Juilliard School, Julia is currently a member of New Dramatists. Durango will play Tuesday and Sunday at 7:00pm, Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00pm, Saturday and Sunday at 2:00pm, through December 10th.  There will be a post-show discussion on November 15th and December 5th.

There will be no matinee performance on Saturday, November 11th and Sunday November 19th.  For the week of Thanksgiving, there will be a performance on Monday, November 20th at 7:00pm.  There will be no performance on Thursday, November 23rd.

Tickets for Durango are $50.  Tickets are on sale at The Public Theater box office, 425 Lafayette Street; on-line at www.publictheater.org or by phone at 212-967-7555 (please note new number).
