Cherry Lane Theatre Goes Uptown to Support Downtown Theatre

On March 22, 2006, the landmark Cherry Lane Theatre launched "We're Going Downtown!," a marketing campaign on MTVs Full-Motion Digital Video Billboard in Times Square, in the heart of the Broadway Theatre District. Featured in the campaign are this years Cherry Lane Legacy Award honorees Edward Albee, John F. Breglio and David Henry Hwang as well as Billy Crudup, Drea de Matteo, Judith Ivey, F. Murray Abraham, Dule Hill, Adriana Trigiani and Tamara Tunie.

The "We're Going Downtown! campaign debuted on March 22 and will run through April 3, 2006, the day of the Grand Re-Opening of the Cherry Lane Theatre and ACT II: The New Cherry Lane, its annual gala. "The campaign uses a powerful combination of top celebrities who boldly proclaim that they are going downtown as a promotion for the legendary Cherry Lane Theatre, the first Off-Broadway theater, and the downtown theatre community, which consist of over 100 Off and Off-Off-Broadway theaters," state press notes.

The theater will celebrate its re-opening on April 3, 2006 at its ACT II: The New Cherry Lane Gala. The star-studded event to be held at the newly renovated Cherry Lane Theatre will be hosted by two-time Tony Award-winning actress Judith Ivey and feature special performances by F. Murray Abraham, Robby Benson, Karla DeVito, Dule Hill, Kelley O'Conner and many others. The program will include all-star performances of scenes from notable Cherry Lane productions, The Pirates of Penzance and Dutchman, plus special surprise performances.

The MTV Video Billboard is located in the Bowtie of Times Square, right across the street from MTVs Live Studio at 1515 Broadway. ACT II: The New Cherry Lane Gala will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, April 3, 2006 at Cherry Lane Theatre, located at 38 Commerce Street in Greenwich Village, Manhattan.
