Birdland Jazz Club has announced its November 2015 schedule, featuring Django Reinhardt Festival Allstars, Benny Green Trio, The Birdland Big Band, Lesli Margherita, Christine Ebersole & Billy Stritch, Poncho Sanchez, Jim Caruso's Cast Party and more. Scroll down for details!


Birdland will kick-off their exciting month of programming with the following acts:

"We're Going to Have to Ask You to Leave"

Hosted by Michael Urie and Celia Keenan-Bolger

In Honor of the Late Jim Rebhorn

Hosted by Tony nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger (Glass Menagerie, Peter and the Starcatcher) and Lortel award winner Michael Urie (Lincoln Center's Shows for Days, "Ugly Betty") this is the second benefit concert and auction for the American Cancer Society to be produced by actresses Karen Walsh (Machinal, American Odyssey) and Rebecca Brooksher ("Happyish," Red Bull's Loot). The concert, directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt with music direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, will once again feature some of Broadway's best musical and theatrical talent in an evening dedicated to the heroic spirit of those who have conquered the disease, as well as a celebration of those who lost their battle. Proceeds go to benefit the American Cancer Society.

All tickets $50-75, $10 food/drink minimum

Benny Green Trio

With Dezron Douglas & Rodney Green

Benny Green possesses the history of jazz at his fingertips. Combine mastery of keyboard technique with decades of real world experience playing with no one less than the most celebrated artists of the last half century, and it's no wonder Green has been hailed as perhaps the most exciting hard-swinging, hard-bop pianist to ever emerge from Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

November 5 (Thursday) at 6:00PM

Carol Welsman

Internationally renowned jazz vocalist/pianist Carol Welsman celebrates the release of her 11th album, ALONE TOGETHER and her debut at New York's Birdland. The Canadian born, six time Juno nominee (Canadian Grammy) who now resides in Los Angeles, recorded the album in New York City, backed by an assemblage of world class players that include trumpeter Wallace Roney, bassist Rufus Reid, drummer Lewis Nash and guitarist Jay Azzolina. For this show, she will be performing with bassist Doug Weiss, drummer Adam Nussbaum, and guitarist Jay Azzolina.

Sally Mayes and Jeff Harnar in "Double Take"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that Broadway's Sally Mayes will team with cabaret's Jeff Harnar in a new duo concert, "Double Take."

Poncho Sanchez

Born in Texas and raised in Los Angeles in a large Mexican-American family, for more than three decades conguero Poncho Sanchez has stirred up a fiery stew of straight ahead jazz, gritty soul music, and infectious melodies and rhythms from a variety of Latin American and South American sources. His influences are numerous, but among the more prominent figures that inform his music are two of the primary architects of Latin jazz - conga drummer and composer Chano Pozo and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. Poncho's recent CD is "Live in Hollywood."

November 16 (Monday) at 7:00PM

Steve Ross in "Steve, Fred and Cole"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer/pianist Steve Ross will return to the Birdland stage in "Steve, Fred and Cole" on Monday, November 16 at 7pm. Singer/pianist Steve Ross and his Sextette will perform the sweet and saucy songs of his favorite composer, Cole Porter, and the bright and rhythmic numbers associated with the inimitable Fred Astaire.

November 17-22 (Tuesday-Sunday) at 8:30PM & 11:00PM

Django Reinhardt Festival Allstars

Over the years, a top Jazz band in the style of Django has evolved onstage at Birdland at the Django Reinhardt NY Festival. It carries on the legacy of legendary gypsy guitarist DJANGO REINHARDT in a contemporary style holding on to the joy, hot sounds, and romance of the music inspired by America's standard repertoire and great musicians such as Duke Ellington, harking back to the 20's and 30's in France bringing "Le Hot Jazz" to today where we call it "Hip Hot Jazz". There will be a special piece dedicated to the life and tremendous talent and career of Maestro Ettore Stratta, co-founder of the Festival, partner and beloved husband of Pat Philips (Stratta).

Christine Ebersole & Billy Stritch in

"Our Favorite Things"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce the return of Tony Award-winning actress/singer CHRISTINE EBERSOLE and Grammy Award-winning composer/pianist/singer BILLY STRITCH in "Our Favorite Things" on Monday, November 23 at 7pm. "Our Favorite Things" will celebrate songs from the duo's past concerts and recordings, including "Surrey With The Fringe on Top," "Small Hotel," "My Favorite Things." Ebersole and Stritch will also introduce a few tunes to kick off the holiday season, complete with their signature tight harmonies, luxurious vocals and snappy conversation.

Cyrill Aimée

"4 Stories"

Jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimée has a culturally rich background -- Dominican and French Gypsy -- and conservatory training (SUNY Purchase) that help to form the rhythmic and expressive foundation by which a jury of legendary vocalists including Al Jarreau, Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves and Dee Dee Bridgewater judged her to be a finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition in 2010. At the young age of twenty-six, Cyrille has since become one of the hottest young artists on the New York scene. She has already released four CDs with a variety of ensembles and performed at the top venues around the world. The New York Times dubs her, "one of those singers whom non-singing musicians call 'a musician.'"

Jonathan Reid Gealt "Whatever I Want It to Be"

"Whatever I Want It To Be" is a fun and eclectic album of songs with influences ranging from jazz to big band, soul to pop, rock and roll to singer/songwriter, Motown and beyond. The album features such artists as Jane Monheit, Laura Osnes, Joshua Henry, Lindsey Mendez and more.

Lesli Margherita "Broad"

Mae West. Sophie Tucker. Lesli Margherita. Brassy. Ballsy. Bawdy....BROAD. Olivier Award Winner Lesli Margherita (Dames at Sea, Matilda) returns to the New York cabaret stage in "BROAD," an evening celebrating the controversial women of yesteryear. Written by Margherita, the evening will be directed by Lauren Bass, with musical arrangements by Brett Ryback and produced by Jordan & Lauren Bass

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

Birdland's very own jazz quartet hits the stage every Sunday to wrap up the weekend with jazz classics featuring jazz vocalist Carole J. Bufford! Carole J. Bufford has become one of the most sought after young performers in the New York cabaret & jazz scene. Her recent shows, "Speak Easy" and "Body & Soul" earned her rave reviews across the board, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. She has traveled all over the US and recently made her London debut to great critical acclaim.

Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.

Named for alto saxophonist and jazz pioneer Charlie "Bird" Parker who dubbed it "The Jazz Corner of the World," Birdland opened on December 15th 1949. For 60 years it has been home to jazz legends, from Parker, John Coltrane Duke Ellington and Count Basie to Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Diana Krall and everyone in between. The original 52nd street location was a cultural barometer and meeting place, inspiring the songs "Birdland" and "Lullaby of Birdland," and serving as a regular haunt for celebrities and cultural figures. The modern incarnation is a state of the art nightclub featuring award winning Southern and Cajun cuisine, first rate sound and lighting and a who's who of contemporary musical artists, 7 nights a week.
