Cast Aside Productions Presents GODSPELL In Portland

Beginning February 23rd, Cast Aside Productions is bringing its version of the 1971 Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, THE PRINCE OF EGYPT) musical based on the Gospel according to Matthew to a week-long residency at The Studio Theater at Portland Ballet.

"Hippie clowns can feel creepy and unapproachable," explains Artistic Director David Surkin. "The challenge is finding a fresh way to present GODSPELL so it speaks to and is entertaining for audiences in 2018."

"We wanted the cast to be a band, and GODSPELL is their act. This group travels the world inspiring love and tolerance, employing technology and present-day knowledge-sharing devices to assist in telling the parables. It's Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros--meets Ted Talks--meets A Prairie Home Companion."

The cast/band consists of Jonathon Raines, Tommy Waltz, Mo Nichols, Kyle Aarons, Sarah Flagg, Sophie Urey, Kelly Mosher, Rachel Henry, Suzie Assam, Alison Bogannan, Jenna Guiggey, Mike O'Neal, Matt Murray, Matt Johnston, and Evan Cuddy.

Cast Aside is a non-profit, creative company dedicated to producing new and reimagined classic works, providing a platform for theater artists to add their vision and voice to the arts community.

Tickets are now on sale for GODSPELL, which runs for 8 performances at Portland Ballet Studio Theater (517 FOREST AVE SUITE #2, PORTLAND, ME). For more information, visit castasideproductions.com.
