Carol Channing Documentary Gets Free Screening at Tavern on the Green, 8/17

The New York City Parks Department, Central Park Conservancy, NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and IFP will host a free outdoor screening of CAROL CHANNING: LARGER THAN LIFE at Tavern on the Green on on August 17. Before the film, director Dori Berinstein, a Tony Award-winning Broadway producer, will introduce the screening.

The story of legendary performer Carol Channing's life is as colorful as the lipstick on her big, bright smile. In Carol Channing: LARGER THAN LIFE, director Dori Berinstein (Show Business, Gotta Dance), with co-writer Adam Zucker, captures the magic and vivacity of the 90-year-old icon - both onstage and off...past and present. The film is both an intimate love story and a rarefied journey inside Broadway's most glamorous era. It is, above all, a look at an inspiring, incomparable and always entertaining American legend. The film also includes behind-the-curtain stories from a wide range of personalities that have known Carol for years.

As described in press notes, "Director Dori Berinstein captures the magic and vivacity of the 90-year-old icon and throws it at the screen like roses at the stage during curtain call. You'll have a grin on your face and a tear in your eye, evidence that the original Dolly Levi is still glowin', still crowin', and still goin' strong."

Channing is the recipient of three Tony Awards (including one for lifetime achievement), a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. Channing is best remembered for originating, on Broadway, the musical-comedy roles of bombshell Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and matchmaking widow Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly!
