CAPA Reveals Summer Movie Series 2026 Lineup
The 57th annual series includes free OHIO GOES TO THE MOVIES screenings and a silent film with live accompaniment
The CAPA Summer Movie Series, the longest-running classic film series in America, today announced the schedule for its 57th series of classic films and cult favorites. The 2026 series will run June 18-August 16 at the historic Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.) and feature 28 films over nine weeks. Highlights include 13 series premieres, three screenings paying special tribute to some of Hollywood's all-time greats, six films marking significant anniversaries of their original releases, a silent film with live musical accompaniment, Fright Nite Friday with Fritz, and two Saturday mornings of classic cartoons.
Ohio Goes to the Movies
CAPA is proud to partner with Ohio Goes to the Movies to present two free films on this year's Summer Movie Series. OGTTM is a celebration of movies that showcase Ohioans in front of, and behind the camera (actors, directors, writers, composers) as well as Ohio locations and topics, all as part of Ohio's statewide celebration of America's 250th anniversary.
Ohio Goes to the Movies screenings during the Summer Movie Series include Lee Daniels' The Butler (based on the book The Butler by Columbus native Wil Haygood) on June 19; and Coal Miner's Daughter (starring Columbus native Beverly D'Angelo as Patsy Cline) on July 22.
Haygood will be present on June 19 to introduce the film and hold a pre-show opportunity with attendees.
These movies are free of charge, and no ticket is required to attend.
Show Tunes
Now celebrating his 34th year as featured organist for the CAPA Summer Movie Series, Clark Wilson will again provide pre-show entertainment at the keyboards and controls of the Ohio Theatre's treasured “Mighty Morton” theatre organ presented by Ice Miller 30 minutes prior to each screening. A touring performer, recording artist, and renowned expert on the scoring of silent films, Wilson was called a “master of silent film and showman of the first order” by film critic/historian Leonard Maltin.
Also performing at the organ are associate organists David Fleisher and Richie Gregory. Fleisher, a central Ohio native, began studying piano at age seven and recalls falling in love with the Ohio Theatre's organ as a young audience member. He has served as associate organist at the Ohio Theatre since 2006. Richie Gregory has had a lifelong love for the organ, having been introduced to the theatre pipe organ at the age of one. A Capital University graduate, Gregory has played at the Ohio Theatre since 2025. He has a strong interest in tower chimes Conn electronic organs.
Fright Nite Friday with Fritz
While Fritz the Nite Owl will not be on-site for the screening, audiences can still return to the days of Nite Owl Theatre as Mike McGraner leads a special Fright Nite Friday presentation of Gremlins (1984) on Friday, August 14. Fans will enjoy a full episode of Nite Owl Theatre complete with Fritz's signature breaks loaded with trivia-tastic tomfoolery and campy special effects.
Special Services
Select films will be audio-described for visually impaired persons at no extra charge. Audio description allows patrons to hear a scene-by-scene narration of the on-screen action while they listen to the movie dialogue. Visit capa.com for a list of audio-described movie screenings for the 2026 series.
In addition, ListenWIFI, an assistive listening app that patrons can download to their personal cell phones, is available at all screenings. When coupled with the patron's headphones or ear buds, the app provides high-quality audio streamed directly to the patron and can be adjusted for volume preference.
