Trio, the new cabaret series at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre (61 Christopher St.),
will conclude its run on August 28th at the famed West
Village theatre; it began on August 13th. The series is built around the simple concept of three
performers appearing nightly, performing mostly new material.
More specifically, the idea behind Trio
is to "combine the efforts of three performers, giving audiences an
exposure to three different styles during the course of one evening,"
states a press article. "This style is similar to the way in which The
Duplex was booked in the 60's, with three different performers
appearing nightly, each presenting their own 'sets.' Each performance of Trio will run between 60 and 90 minutes, and will be hosted by an esteemed member of the cabaret community."On Sunday, August 28th, Phil Geoffrey Bond (Director of
Programming, The Duplex Cabaret Theatre) will be the emcee for John
Bucchino, Julie Garnye and Ritt Henn. John Bucchino is the composer/lyricist of the short musical "Lavender Girl" from 3hree, and his other musicals include The Artist at 40 and Urban Myths; a CD of his works entitled "Grateful" is named after his most often-performed song. Garnye (who is making her cabaret debut) appeared in the Actors' Fund benefit concerts of Hair and Chess, as well as in the National AIDS Fund Gala concerts of Children of Eden and Pippin. Henn, a bassist and songwriter, received a 2005 MAC Award for Best New York Debut--Male. He has also appeared off-Broadway in Shockheaded Peter.
