Brooklyn's On Stage At Kingsborough Presents HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! Free Outdoor Concert Series

On Stage At Kingsborough, a leading performing arts presenter located on the campus of Brooklyn's Kingsborough Community College presents its 2018 HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! FREE Outdoor Concert series, featuring concerts under the stars every Saturday at 8:00 p.m.beginning July 7th and ending July 28th. HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! will feature a wide range of outstanding jazz musicians with unforgettable al fresco concerts under the stars. The series is proudly sponsored by Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams.

This season, continue your Independence Day celebration with Duchess as they perform "Boogie Woogie Independence Day!" This swinging trio, comprised of Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner and Melissa Stylianou, will perform patriotic tunes and great American gems from the Andrews Sisters and Boswell Sisters, such as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen," "Heebie Jeebies," and more. Duchess has played at Dizzy's, Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors, Monterey Jazz Festival and more, quickly earning a reputation for beautiful vocals and BIG fun!

Swing on over for one of the hottest groups on the international swing scene, as Professor Cunningham & His Old School present "Swing It Out!" This award-winning band plays grooving and swinging tunes deeply steeped in the New Orleans tradition; from Sidney Bechet to Fats Waller to Professor Longhair and even Fats Domino! Professor Cunningham & His Old School has performed at some of the world's finest festivals, including the Blue Note Jazz Fest in New York, The Snowball festival in Stockholm, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, CPLX in Copenhagen and the Swing Crash festival in Como, Italy. They have received numerous international music awards including "Best Band" at World Jam in Madrid, for the past two years running.

Experience the excitement of acclaimed trumpeter and vocalist Jumaane Smith, as he performs "LOUIS! LOUIS! LOUIS!" The performance is a celebration of the origins of jump blues and jazz, with thrilling renditions of timeless classics from Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, and Louis Jordan, along with original music composed especially for this show. A talented trumpeter and vocalist, Jumaane Smith has toured the world with Michael Bublé, performed on the Grammys with Stevie Wonder, and collaborated with Barbra Streisand, Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, Wynton Marsalis, Chris Botti, and Herbie Hancock. He is a featured performer on five Grammy Winning albums.

Come dance to one of New York City's most sought-after ensembles, Jason Prover's Sneak Thievery Orchestra, as they bring to life hits of the Roaring Twenties. "Everything Old is New Again!" offers fresh renditions of Jazz Age favorites such as "Fascinatin' Rhythm," "I'm Putting All My Eggs In OneBasket," and "West End Blues," performed with style, sophistication, and a touch of the blues. Bandleader Jason Prover has performed with The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Lee Fields and the Expressions, and the Hot Sardines, among many others.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

All concerts take place at Kingsborough's Lighthouse Bandshell, on the campus of Kingsborough Community College. Admission and parking is free and open to the public. Kingsborough's gates open at 7:00 p.m. and the concerts begin at 8:00 p.m. Reservations are not necessary. A limited number of seats are available, but all are welcome to bring blankets and folding chairs for our lawn.

Rain Location: In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be relocated to the air conditioned Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center. Updated location information will be available on our box office line - (718) 368-5596 - starting at 4:00 p.m. on concert days.

Picnic Information: To complete a gorgeous night of great music in a friendly community setting, our gates open at 7:00 p.m. and picnicking is welcomed. Sandwiches, chips, ice cream, and beverages will be available for sale, or you can bring your own!

By Car: AMPLE, FREE PARKING is available and we are just minutes from Exit 8 off the Belt Parkway. By Bus: Take the B1 or B49 bus straight to our entrance. By Subway: Take the B, Q, F, D, or N and transfer to the B1 bus for a short ride to our entrance.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

On Stage At Kingsborough (OSK) brings artistically and culturally diverse, multidisciplinary performances from masters of the form to the varied communities within and surrounding Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. We strive to create an environment where the arts are an accessible and integral part of life, and the Arts Center is a community gathering place for interaction and inspiration. We present world-class dance, cabaret, theatre, music, and family performances in the Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center and Kingsborough's Lighthouse from October to May, and our HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! free outdoor concert series at The Lighthouse Bandshell every July. Our school-time shows welcome classes from local public and private schools, a majority of which serves economically-disadvantaged or special needs populations. The 2018-2019 season reflects our commitment to present world-class artists in exclusive Brooklyn engagements.
