As Tony season kicks off, May sees a selection of new premieres, returning favorites, and more streaming content for Broadway fans. First up is The Four Seasons, a new comedy series starring Broadway alums Colman Domingo, Erika Henningsen, Steve Carell, and Julia Lester.
May 8 sees the return of Poker Face, the murder mystery comedy series with Natasha Lyonne. This season features a slew of new guest stars, including Wicked's Cynthia Erivo, along with John Mulaney, Katie Holmes, Richard Kind, and more.
Sex and the City fans can also look forward to the latest season of And Just Like That..., debuting at the end of the month. Featuring returning stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, Season 3 will also have an appearance from Broadway icon Patti LuPone.
As for music, Idina Menzel's Redwood will drop its official cast recording this month, as will the studio recording of Jo - The Little Women Musical featuring vocals from Laura Benanti, Christine Ebersole, and Julian Ovenden. The Four Seasons (May 1, Netflix)
The new comedy series, based on the 1981 film, follows six old friends heading for a relaxing weekend away only to learn that one couple in the group is about to split up. The cast features Broadway alums Colman Domingo, Erika Henningsen (currently appearing in Just in Time), Steve Carell, and Julia Lester. Tina Fey, Will Forte, Marco Calvani, and Kerri Kenney-Silver also star.
Poker Face Season 2 (May 8, Peacock)
Season 2 of Poker Face, the mystery-of-the-week series starring Natasha Lyonne from Rian Johnson, will hit Peacock this month. This new season will feature a slew of guest stars, including Broadway alums Cynthia Erivo, John Mulaney, Katie Holmes, Richard Kind, and more. The show follows Lyonne’s Charlie, who has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 10 (May 9, Paramount+)
The tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars begins streaming on Friday, May 9. In this new season, there will be 18 All Stars, the largest in the franchise’s herstory, returning to compete in the ultimate competition for the crown. For the first time ever, the show will introduce a brand-new format across 12 episodes: the Tournament of All Stars. The queens will be divided into three groups of six, each competing in their own bracket across three episodes.
Pee-wee as Himself (May 23, Max)
Woven together from over 40 hours of interview footage filmed before Paul Reubens’ death, Pee-wee as Himself is a two-part documentary film chronicling his journey to becoming the iconic character Pee-Wee Herman and beyond. As a cult figure in the 1980s, Reubens brought The Pee-Wee Herman Show to Broadway in 2010.
Mike Birbiglia: The Good Life (May 26, Netflix)
Award-winning comedian Mike Birbiglia is returning to Netflix for his fourth comedy special, The Good Life, which follows The Old Man & The Pool, his one-man show that ran on Broadway in 2022. In his latest hour, Birbiglia opens up about his father’s recent stroke and discusses how it has prompted him to reevaluate his own approach to fatherhood.
And Just Like That... Season 3 (May 29, Max)
Set in the world of Sex and the City, the series follows Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, Seema, and LTW navigating the complicated reality of life, love, sex, and friendship in their 50s in New York City. Season 3 cast includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, and more. Broadway icon Patti LuPone is also set to appear in the new season.
Off Broadway (May 2)
Off-Broadway is a new studio album from Ryan Shaw and Ray Angry featuring R&B, soul, jazz, rock, reggae, house, and classical-inspired takes on classic Broadway hits. Produced by Scott Jacoby along with Shaw and Angry. Arrangements by Angry and Shaw. Songs include "My Way," "On Broadway," "Surprise," "Gethsemane," "She Used to Be Mine," "On the Street Where You Live," "Without You," "Waving Through a Window," and "Send in the Clowns."
Redwood Original Broadway Cast Recording (May 13)
The original Broadway cast recording of the new musical Redwood will feature vocals by Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel, Tony Award Nominee De’Adre Aziza, Grammy Award-winner Michael Park, Zachary Noah Piser and Khaila Wilcoxon. The album includes music by Kate Diaz, lyrics by Kate Diaz and Tina Landau, as well as orchestrations and arrangements by Kate Diaz. Watch the music video for "In the Leaves" below.
Stages- Rachel Potter (May 16)
Broadway star Rachel Potter will release her new album Stages in May, a curated collection of reimagined Broadway classics featuring an all-star lineup of guest vocalists, including Ali Stroker, Christine Dwyer, Natalie Weiss, Matt DeAngelis, and more. Jo - The Little Women Musical Studio Cast Recording (May 23)
The concept cast recording of Jo - The Little Women Musical, a new musical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s iconic coming-of-age novel, will be available on Friday, May 23. Featuring music by Dan Redfeld, book and lyrics by Christina Harding and John Gabriel Koladziej, the cast includes Laura Benanti, Christine Ebersole, Julian Ovenden, Christine Allado, Bob Gunton, and more.
