Breaking News: Toronto's HAIRSPRAY set to shutter November 28

Announced at an 11am press conference in Toronto held by Mirvish, Hairspray is set to play its last performance on November 28th, 2004 a production spokesperson confirmed.

The show, which began performances on April 8, 2004 at the Princess of Wales Theatre, will end its engagement on Sunday, November 28, 2004. By its scheduled closing date, "HAIRSPRAY will have played 264 performances and will have been seen by 350,000 people statistics that are worth celebrating" says the official statement issued by Mirvish.

The original Broadway production of HAIRSPRAY opened on August 15, 2002, won critical raves and eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It continues to pack New York's Neil Simon Theatre. There is also a touring production playing major cities across the United States. The Toronto engagement was the musical's first international production, with many more to follow in major cities around the world.
