Breaking News: BWW New York Cabaret Award Nominations to be Announced 11/25; Select YOUR 'Favorite' Performers NOW Until 11/20
The editors of the BroadwayWorld.com New York cabaret section announced today that nominations for the 4th annual New York Cabaret Awards will be revealed during the week of November 23. There will be five to 12 nominees selected in approximately 20 categories, as well as "Editor's Awards" for special achievement. This process will be a departure from previous years when potential preliminary nominees were solicited online from BroadwayWorld.com readers and the highest vote getters were declared nominees before an online vote for the winners.
This year, New York Cabaret Editor Stephen Hanks and his team of cabaret show reviewers will select final nominees not only based on their own show reviews but on the critiques and opinions of the most qualified and respected New York cabaret reviewers and aficionadoes. After the nominations are announced, online voting will begin after Thanksgiving and run through December 31. Winners will be announced in January, 2016.
But BroadwayWorld does want your input on nominees for four special categories that have been added to the mix this year: FAVORITE CABARET PERFORMER, MALE & FEMALE and FAVORITE CELEBRITY CABARET PERFORMER, MALE & FEMALE.
What defines a "celebrity cabaret performer" as opposed to all other cabaret performers? If the performer is well-known for having worked in theater, musical theater, film, or television, then they are classified as "celebrities." For example, such a label would apply to many performers who staged shows at venues such as 54 Below or Cafe Carlyle, etc.
"Favorite" cabaret performers are not necessarily those who produced the best shows during the past year (November 2015--November 2016), but who YOU love to watch and hear sing on a stage. It's sort of like the cabaret people's choice awards. But please select only those performers who mounted shows or appeared in various productions over the past year.
