Two-time Tony Award-winner Bernadette Peters will be recognized with the first ever New York City Park's Citizen Award at this year's Annual Gala, which will be held Monday, September 25, 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Boathouse in Central Park.
The Citizen Award will be presented every year to a New Yorker of note who has raised awareness of the New York City Parks and the natural life of the city through their volunteer efforts. Peters "is a tireless volunteer advocate for homeless animals. Her leadership of Broadway Barks has raised awareness for the plight of abandoned animals and has helped to foster communication between shelters and rescue groups. She continues to focus her efforts on responsible pet ownership and education - helping to make our Parks safer for everyone,"state press notes.The Gala is the primary source of operating funds for the Unit, which is a privately funded organization and one of the few private organizations that helps fund a NYC government agency. Cocktails and buffet dinner will be served; a silent auction and raffle will also be held.Videos
