Bassett Joins Reynolds, Robbins, et al. in Upcoming 'Green Lantern' Film

Actor Angela Bassett will join the cast of "Green Lantern" which also features Ryan Reynolds, Peter Sarsgaard, and Mark Strong, Tim Robbins, and Blake Lively.

Bassett will play Dr. Amanda Waller, a government agent while Ryan Reynolds plays the title character, Peter Sarsgaard plays the villain Hector Hammond, Time Robbins plays Hammond's father, and Blake Lively plays Carol Ferris, Reynolds' love interest.

The film is based on the DC Comics superhero and will be directed by Martin Campbell and produced by DonaldDe Line and Greg Berlanti. Berlanti also wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Rewrites were done by Michael Goldenberg.

Filming has begun in New Orleans.

Basset is looking to make her feature directorial debut with "United States." The film is based on the book "Erasure" by Percival Everett. "United States" was adapted for Bassett Vance Productions by Dwayne Johnson-Cochran.

Bassett has appeared on Broadway in the original production of August Wilson's JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE. She performed at the Public Theater in their production of MACBETH opposite Alec Baldwin and also appeared in August Wilson's FENCES at the Pasadena Playhouse.
