"Look around, look around how lucky we are to be alive right now" said Jeffrey Seller (producer of Hamilton: An American Musical) after the announcement of his show winning best musical at the 2016 Tony Awards.

With its revolutionary style and months of sold out shows, Hamilton has done nothing but take over the Broadway scene. Predictions leading up to the awards caused many to believe that Hamilton was going to dominate the night, as it made Tony Awards' history with its 16 nominations. After last night the show has proved those predictions, winning 11 Tonys.

The 11 trophies led to a close tie with the The Producers, which still holds the most Tonys won in a night with its 12 wins in 2001. The 11 categories that the musical sweeped included:

Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Howell Binkley), Best Costume Design of a Musical (Paul Tazewell), Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire), Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), Best Book of a Musical (Lin-Manuel Miranda), Best Direction of a Musical (Thomas Kail), Featured Actress in a Musical (Renée Elise Goldsberry), Featured Actor in a Musical (Daveed Diggs), Best Original Score (Lin-Manuel Miranda), Leading Actor in a Musical (Leslie Odom, Jr.), the biggest award of the night- Best Musical.

Hamilton's fresh and unique style, has been a game-changer in the theatre world. Its music, writing, diversity, and story came together to make history last night and after recognizing its success, the Hamilton cast closed the show with a performance of "The Schuyler Sisters", reminding everyone how hard they've worked and how lucky they felt.
