"Billy Elliot"was the big winner on Sunday at the eighth annual Helpmann Awards which are Australia's version of the Tonys.

The show won best musical over  "Guys and Dolls," "Company" and  "The Phantom of the Opera." Directors Stephen Daldry and Julian Webber won direction honors.

Actor in a musical awards were shared between the four Billys -- Lochlan Denholm, Nick Twiney, Rarmian Newton and Rhys Kosakowski -- while castmate Genevieve Lemon won the best actress award

Shane Jacobson won supporting actor in a musical for his stage debut in "Guys and Dolls."

The play "Toy Symphony," took four awards: acting awards for Richard Roxburgh, direction for Neil Armfield, supporting actor for Russell Dykstra and new work for Gow.

Company B won best play for its revival of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" And Julie Forsyth won supporting actress for "Exit the King."
