About the Work

Christopher Unpezverde Núñez's new work is a collage of memories based on childhood experiences. It explores the male stereotypical behavior and the obsolescence of imposed masculinity in children. It's a choreographic piece conceived to confront the stereotypes of masculine and feminine behaviors based on childhood experiences, poems, toys and philosophy.

Samuel Hanson's new work will be a collaboration with writer/musician Alexander Ortega with whom Hanson also worked on boy at sea in 2009. "With Alex, I improved as a writer and learned about my own biases and my own desires around dance. Since then we have worked to reverse engineer a dance from a text. This dance is that attempt."

About the Artists

Christopher Unpezverde Núñez is a Brooklyn based interdisciplinary artist. He holds a BFA in Dance from The National University in Costa Rica. Núñez has performed internationally in Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Costa Rica and USA. Some of the choreographers Núñez has worked with are Christophe Haleb, Mark Sieczkarek and Darryl Thomas. His choreography explores the Latin America diaspora, hyper masculinity, technological artifacts and gender identity to develop pieces with a curious taste for irreverence. Núñez is a Battery Dance Space Grant Recipient (NYC) in 2018, a Moving Borders Scholarship recipient (México) in 2014 and was awarded Best Performer by the National Theater (Costa Rica) in 2012. Most recently, his works have been presented at Panoply Performance Laboratory, InSitu Dance Festival, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center and Movement Research at The Judson Memorial Church.

Samuel Hanson was born in Salt Lake City in 1988. He now lives in New York City. His formative dance training was with Hilary Carrier and Chara Huckins. His recent work has been seen in NYC at Triskelion and at the Reckless Theater and in Utah at the University's New Media Wing Theater, the Rose Wagner Center and Salt Lake City's Mudson Performance series. His work has also been seen in Montana, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville and Puebla, Mexico. He has performed for an eclectic mix of artists including Isabel Lewis, Ashley Anderson, Diana Crum, Neta Pulvermacher, Yve Laris Cohen and Lindsey Drury. His writing and video has recently been published online by loveDANCEmore, 15bytes and SLUG.
