American Express revealed a new benefit Thursday to cardholders, billed as the Event Ticket Protection Plan, providing reimbursement for ticket costs to many missed events, including theater.

Broadway and Am Ex have partnered up in recent years with their Gold Card Events offering theatergoers advanced ticket sales and premium seating to some of the high profile events on and off the Great White Way.

Current Gold Card Events listed with American Express Presents Broadway on Yahoo total 38, including pre-sale tickets for The Apple Tree, starring Kristin Chenoweth and the Los Angeles sit-down production of Wicked. opening Feb. 9.

The Protection Plan will refund ticketholders for the expense of their unused tickets charged to an Am Ex card for two covered incidents during a 12-month period, according to a recent press release.

Covered incidents include medical emergencies, producer or venue cancellations should the total cost already not be refunded, transportation accidents, jury duty, subpoena, death or the ever present call to active military duty.

Amex will offer this benefit at no extra cost or enrollment to consumer and business Gold, Platinum and Centurion cardholders.
