Ailey's 60th Anniversary Holiday Season At New York City Center Leaps Into Final Weeks

As the holiday season swells, witness the final weeks of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's historic 60th Anniversary season at New York City Center. Upcoming highlights include a thrilling assortment of special programs, a new production of Artistic Director Robert Battle's Juba, and critically-acclaimed premieres and returning favorites, including Alvin Ailey's timeless masterpiece, Revelations.

Begin the weekend with Ailey's Three Visionaries program on December 14, featuring celebrated works by each of the Company's artistic directors: Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison, and Robert Battle (repeats De. 26 mat). Timeless Ailey, presenting two acts of rarely seen excerpts from works by the Company's founder, returns during the Family Matinee Series on Saturday, December 16 (Timeless Ailey repeats Dec 22 mat + eve, 30 mat). Then, for the last three times this season, the All Ailey program will showcase a selection of Mr. Ailey's classics in their entirety (Dec 15 eve, 16 mat + eve).

Ailey's unforgettable performances continue with All New programs on December 18, 19, 20, and 29, featuring hip-hop pioneer Rennie Harris's Lazarus, 2018 Dance Magazine Award recipient Ronald K. Brown's The Call, the first American company's staging of Wayne McGregor's Kairos, and Jessica Lang's luminous EN.

On Friday, December 21, Ailey's All Battle program kicks off with a new production of Artistic Director Robert Battle's first work for the Company, Juba (2003). The quartet explores ritual and folk traditions in modern society against an original score by frequent collaborator John Mackey. The program also includes Ella, No Longer Silent, In/Side, and Mass (repeats Dec 23 eve, 27).

Holiday Revelations continue through December 30 with a culminating Special Season Finale, featuring excerpts of world and company premieres and Alvin Ailey's most celebrated masterpiece.
