Ahrens & Flaherty Benefit Presented in Chicago, 3/19

By: Dec. 26, 2006

Tony Award-winner Stephen Flaherty will appear at the Bailiwick Repertory Theatre in Chicago on March 19th, 2007.

He will be present for a benefit honoring the songs and shows that he has written with Lynn Ahrens.  Composer Flaherty and lyricist Ahrens have penned such shows as Once On This Island, My Favorite Year, Lucky Stiff, Ragtime, Seussical, A Man of No Importance and Dessa Rose.  Their latest musical, The Glorious Ones, is based on Francine Prose's novel about a Commedia dell'Arte troupe.

"For the Flaherty/Ahrens event, Bailiwick will turn its mainstage theatre into a cabaret setting for this special musical revue.  The theme of the evening, presented by a celebrity emcee, will be the masterful way that this songwriting team is able to tell such rich, human stories in a variety of settings around the world," state Bailiwick notes.  David Zak will direct the evening, and Robert Ollis will supply musical direction for "Why We Tell Our Story - Broadway Musicals of Flaherty & Ahrens," which will raise money for Bailiwick's productions.

Next year, the theatre will present the American premiere of Jerry Springer - The Opera.

Tickets are $50 for VIP reserved seating, and $30 for general admission.  They can be ordered by calling (773) 883-1090, or by reserving on-line at www.bailiwick.org.
