AVENUE Q puppets set to pass ANNIE orphans and revival of CABARET to become 21st longest-running show in Broadway history at performance 2,379 performances (and counting!)

On two consecutive days, May 1st and May 2nd, 2009, AVENUE Q will surpass two legendary Broadway musicals to become the 21st longest-running show in Broadway history: ANNIE and the revival of CABARET.

During its legendary Broadway run from 1977 to 1983, Annie, Sandy, Daddy Warbucks, Miss Hannigan and those lovable orphans of ANNIE played a total of 2,377 performances on Broadway, a number that AVENUE Q tied on April 30, 2009 and will surpass with its 2,378th performance on Broadway May 1, 2009.

The revival of the musical CABARET ran on Broadway from 1998 to 2004, playing a total of 2,378 performances, which AVENUE Q will tie with its performance on Friday, May 1, 2009 and surpass with its 2,379th performance at the Saturday, May 2nd matinee (2 p.m.),thus claiming the mantle of 21st longest-running musical in Broadway history.

In recent months, AVENUE Q has surpassed the original run of SOUTH PACIFIC (1,925), PIPPIN (1,944), the original OKLAHOMA (2,212) and MAN OF LA MANCHA (2,328).

Now in its 6th year on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre (252 W. 45 St.), AVENUE Q began performances on Broadway on July 14, 2003, opened July 31, 2003, and went on to win three Tony Awards in 2004 -- including Best Musical. The show has subsequently been produced to great acclaim in London's West End, on U.S. national tour, with productions of the people and puppet musical spreading around the globe.

A musical about 20-somethings who move to the city with big dreams and tiny bank accounts, AVENUE Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, and is directed by Jason Moore. The musical is produced by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, The Vineyard Theatre and The New Group. Based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, AVENUE Q has musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.

AVENUE Q currently features a cast which includes: Carey AndersonChristian Anderson, Jennifer Barnhart, Nicholas Kohn, Carla RenataAnn Sanders and Howie Michael Smith.
