Celebrating America's 250th birthday, The Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre and WXGL – 107.3 The Eagle presents the highly anticipated return of the Summer Classic Movie Series.  The films chosen for the summer movie series this year, represent a wide variety of unique American storytelling through film. Single tickets and Loge Box Four-Pack tickets are on sale now.   Please see below for movie descriptions and a list of dates and times.

Single General Admission tickets starting at $5 are available at The Raymond James Central Ticket Office at Ruth Eckerd Hall, by calling 727-791-7400 or visiting www.RuthEckerdHall.com

The Ticket Office at Ruth Eckerd Hall is located at 1111 N. McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater and is open Tuesday through Thursday, from noon to 6 pm, Friday, from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from noon to 6 pm.  Loge Box Packages starting at $75 are also available, which includes seating for four in a private luxury box, as well as four snacks and four non-alcoholic beverages.   

Single tickets may also be purchased day of at the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre Box Office.  The Bilheimer Capitol Theatre Box Office will open 1 hour prior to the start of the film.  General admission seating will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Armageddon

Friday, July 10 at 7 pm

Kicking off the series to coincide with the return of Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters concert to The Bilheimer on Sunday, July 12, is the film Armageddon, released in 1998. After discovering that an asteroid the size of Texas will impact Earth in less than a month, NASA recruits a misfit team of deep-core drillers to save the planet.  In addition to starring Billy Bob Thornton, the ensemble case includes Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, Ben Affleck, Will Patton, Keith David, Owen Wilson and Steve Buscemi.

An American Tail: Fievel Goes West

Saturday, July 11 at 2 pm

The sequel to 1986's An American Tail, Fievel Goes West, follows the story of the Mousekeqitzes, a family of mice who emigrate to the Wild West, unaware they are falling into a trap perpetrated by a smooth-talking cat.  Phillip Glasser, Dom DeLuise, Nehemiah Persoff and Erica Yohn reprise their roles from the first film.  New characters are voice by John Cleese, Amy Irving, Jon Lovitz and Jimmy Stewart in his final film role.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Friday, July 31 at 7 pm

Based on the Marvel Comics character, Captain America, The First Avenger was released in 2011 and stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones and Stanley Tucci.  During World War II, Rogers, a frail man is transformed not the super-soldier Captain America and must stop the Red Skull (Weaving) from using the Tesseract as an energy source for world domination.  Steve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.

National Treasure

Saturday, August 1 at 2 pm

Released in 2004, National Treasure is the first film in the National Treasure franchise and stars Nicolas Cage in the lead role, alongside Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Harvey Keitel, Jon Voight an Christopher Plummer.  In the film, Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage), a historian, along with computer expert Riley Poole (Bartha) and archivist Abigail Chase (Kruger), search for a massive lost Freemanson treasure, which includes a map hidden on the back of the United States Declaration of Independence.

Stripes

Friday, August 14 at 7 pm

Stripes is the 1981 American war comedy starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and John Candy.  It tells the story of an immature taxicab driver (Murray) and his teacher friend (Ramis) who enlist in the United States Army with comical results. Numerous actors, including John Larroquette, John Diehl, Judge Reinhold Dave Thomas and Bill Paxton appear in the film in some of the earliest roles of their careers.

Glory

Saturday, August 15 at 7 pm

Glory is the epic historical war drama film about the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of the Union Army's earliest African American regiments in the American Civil War from the formation of their regiment to their heroic actions at the Second Battle of Fort Wagner.  It stars Matthew Broderick as Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, the regiment's commanding office and Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes and Morgan Freeman as fictional members of the 54th.  The film was nominated for fie Academy Awards and won three, with Washington winning Best Supporting Actor.  In 2025, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”

Miracle

Saturday, August 29 at 7 pm

Released in 2004 Miracle is the true story about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, whose victory in the 1980 Winter Olympics over the seemingly invincible Soviet squad was dubbed the “Miracle On Ice”.  Kurt Russell stars as head coach Herb Brooks with Patricia Clarkson and Noah Emmerich in supporting roles.

Apollo 23

Saturday, September 5 at 7 pm

NASA must devise a strategy to return Apollo 13 and its astronauts, Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise on board the ill-fated spacecraft.  This true story of the fifth crewed mission to the Moon which was intended to be the third to land, suffers an on-baord explosion depriving their spacecraft of much of its oxygen supply and electrical powers, which forces NASA to abandon the Moon landing and improvise scientific and mechanical solutions to get the three astronauts to Earth safely.  The film stars Tom Hanks as Jim Lovell, Kevin Bacon a Jack Swigert and Bill Paxton as Fred Haise.  The film also stars Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan.
