Our production of Othello at the New Mexico Shakespeare Festival, directed by Stephanie Grilo, transports audiences to the grandeur and shadowy intrigue of 16th-century Venice. This production heightens the play’s atmosphere of passion, deception, and doom. Othello is a tale of love and loss, a gripping tragedy where jealousy festers into destruction. As Othello, a noble general, finds his happiness with Desdemona threatened by the insidious manipulations of Iago, the story unfolds as both a deeply personal tragedy and a cautionary tale of unchecked jealousy and ambition. Opening June 13th and running through July 12th, Othello will be performed in repertory with Much Ado About Nothing, alternating weekends at Veterans Memorial Park (1100 Louisiana Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM). In addition, special performances will be held on Thursday, June 19th, and Thursday, July 3rd, at Winrock Town Center. All performances start at 7:30 pm. Experience one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies in a production that blends the grandeur of Renaissance Venice with dark, Gothic undertones. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic, and immerse yourself in a mesmerizing evening of professional Shakespeare—completely free of charge!
