Poets to Honor Malpais Review at Teatro Paraguas This Spring

Teatro Paraguas will host a poetry reading with 20 New Mexico poets whose work has been featured in Malpais Review, an eminent poetry anthology published quarterly by Gary Brower since 2011 which gained national recognition for excellent poetry, well-researched articles on poets and genres of poetry, and thoughtful and inspiring interviews.

AMP Concerts, the largest non-profit music promoter in the state, is celebrating  their 10th  year as a non-profit by raising $100,000 to serve even more people across the state of New Mexico.  The organization produces roughly 150 events annually with 50 being free community events. In 2016 alone, free events were attended by more than 11,000 people in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. In its 10-year history as a non-profit, AMP has produced 250 free community events that were attended by over 65,000 people.

It is the 1980s, Liverpool, England. Frank is a tutor of English in his fifties whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink and to bury himself in his books. Enter Rita, a forthright 26 year-old hairdresser who is eager to learn and to change her social circumstances through the pursuit of higher education. Willy Russell delightfully weaves together the lives of these two unique characters, with great wit, humor and profound insight. Commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Educating Rita premiered at The Warehouse, London, in June 1980 starring Julie Walters and Mark Kingston. The play was directed by Mike Ockrent, and in 1983 became a hit film with Michael Caine and Julie Walters.
