Myth, Propaganda and Disaster in Nazi Germany and Contemporary America at Little Theatre

“When you make an enemy of the United States, you’d better watch out. Sooner or later we will get you”. Paul Bremer, former US Administrator of Iraq
Talbot Finch is an Australian academic in an Ivy League University on the verge of getting tenure. He believes in reason and the importance of learning from history. But he is dangerously at odds with his colleagues and the prevailing political temperature and he suddenly finds himself in a nightmare, Kafkaesque world where everything he holds dear is rapidly disintegrating. Are his students and colleagues manipulating him? Is his University complicit? Or is he acting out his own myths?
“Who cares what’s legal or illegal; what matters is power and how it is used.”
Stephen Sewell’s award-winning commentary on the War on Terror was considered unrealistic when it premièred in 2003. Fifteen years later, its chilling, sinister portrait of the corrupting nature of power and the corrosive effect of lies is frighteningly perceptive.
With the 24 hour media cycle highlighting global political developments and the precarious relationships between world leaders, what have we learned? What does happen when the ‘Land of the Free’, with its neuroses about security and its desire for control says “You’re either with us or against us”?
This powerful and provocative play will have you talking and thinking long after you leave the theatre.
