Thanks to a successful bid in Stage One's 'West End Lots' charity auction, 20-year-old Lauren Paine from Kent experienced the once in a lifetime thrill of performing alongside Mark Rylance and Mackenzie Crook in the smash-hit play Jerusalem

On New Year's Eve 2011, Lauren, a drama student from Loughborough University, joined the cast on stage performing in the opening 'rave' sequence before joining her family to enjoy the show from the other side of the footlights. The sell-out audience for the performance included former Prime Minister Gordon Brown with his wife Sarah.

As a fan of the production, Lauren was thrilled to receive the surprise gift, thanks to her parents' generous £700 bid.  Speaking after her cameo role, she said: "It's the best Christmas present I could have wished for. I still can't quite believe I was there on stage at Jerusalem, raving away!  The cast and crew were all very welcoming and friendly and helped to make the experience one that I'll never forget."

Stage One, the charity committed to developing and mentoring the next generation of producers for the theatre industry, is running the online fund-raising theatre auction West End Lots, which offers theatre lovers a chance to bid for utterly unique theatrical experiences and memorabilia generously donated by members of the theatrical community, with all proceeds raised by the auction going directly to Stage One. Bidding for these magical opportunities and highly original items will help Stage One to continue to identify and nurture the next generation of theatrical entrepreneurs through its Apprentice Schemes, workshops, bursaries and the practical mentoring support its gives to new theatre producers.
