Sheffield Theatres Productions presents True West, the show is directed by Paul Miller and designed by Hayden Griffin. The show will be held at Crucible Theatre at Tudor Square, Sheffield. It will run Thursday 13 May - Saturday 5 June 2010. 

Austin: a screenwriter who's about to land his big break. Lee: a small-time crook without a nickel to his name.

Austin is a screenwriter on the verge of his big break. Lee is his brother, a small-time crook more familiar with the desert than Hollywood. But when a big shot movie producer prefers Lee's experience to Austin's script, the men battle for their own ‘True West'.

John Light and Nigel Harman star as both Austin and Lee and will alternate their roles throughout the run of the production, on Tuesday 18 May the decision will be made by the toss of a coin right before the production starts.

True West, a play about sibling rivalry, the American West and toasters...lots of toasters!

Nigel Harman returns to the Crucible after last appearing in The Caretaker in 2007. Harman's theatre credits include Public Property (Trafalgar Studios) Lady in the Van (Birmingham Rep) Privates on Parade (Donmar Warehouse) and A Midsummer Night's Dream (Regents Park Open Air Theatre) and Three Days of Rain (Apollo Theatre) Harman's TV credits include Hotel Babylon (BBC) City of Vice (Channel 4) and, as a series regular, Denis Rickman in EastEnders (BBC).

John Light plays Austin and Lee, his theatre credits include, Julius Caesar (RSC) The Tempest (RSC) The Night Season (National Theatre) Certain Young Men (Almedia) Clocks and Hedda Gabler (Dublin Gate Theatre); for TV, Band of Brothers (Warner Bros) and Dalziel and Pascoe (BBC).

Abigail Mckern plays Mom; her theatre credits include La Cage Aux Folles (Playhouse Theatre) Suddenly Last Summer (Crucible Theatre) Nicolas Nickleby (West End). Abigail is the daughter of actor Leo McKern who is favourable remembered as ITV's Rumpole of the Bailey.

John Schwab plays Saul Kimmer, his theatre credits include 6 Dance Lessons in 6 Weeks (Theatre Royal Haymarket) National Anthems (Old Vic). His TV credits include Hotel Babylon (BBC) and Dr Who (BBC)

Sam Shepard wrote True West in 1980, and the play premièred at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco. Shepard is a playwright, actor, director and author born in 1942. He has written over 45 plays, 11 of which have won Obie Awards, including True West. His work includes Fool for Love, A Lie of the Mind, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Buried Child. He also wrote the screenplay for Wim Wender's Paris, Texas for which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Associate Director of Sheffield Theatres, Paul Miller directs. His work includes Elling at the Trafalgar Studios; Baby Girl/DNA/The Miracle, The Enchantment, The History Boys (Wyndham's and Ahmanson Theatre LA); Sing Yer Heart Out for the Lads and The Associate for the National Theatre, and Total Eclipse at the Menier Chocolate Factory. He worked for many years at the National Theatre Studio developing new plays and has directed for the Bush, the Arcola, Hampstead, ETT, Soho Theatre, Sheffield Crucible and the Royal Court.
