BWW Reviews: JOHNNY PARTRIDGE - Dames, Dudes & Cowboys Too Album

John Partridge first came to my attention in the wonderful Drowsy Chaperone back in 2007 although he had had a great two decades previous to this working in musical theatre. Since then his career has rocketed and he is now most commonly and fondly known as Christian Clarke from Eastenders. John has most recently been seen in the BBC's gymnastics reality show Tumble until he sadly bowed out last weekend. His next venture is the release of his debut album 'Dames, Dudes and Cowboys Too' under the name of Johnny Partridge and I have had the pleasure of previewing it for BWW:UK.

Unless you were able to appreciate Partridge's triple threat status prior to his TV appearances, many may be oblivious to his musical talents. This ten track CD showcases these vocal skills and the fact that he can deliver a diverse range of songs from a variety of genres with ease. From the soft mellow sounds of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' to the rockier 'Bite The Hand That Feeds' by Nine Inch Nails, there is something for all tastes. Although predominantly cover tracks, Partridge has put his own spin on the songs so they have a fresh sound; some nearly unrecognisable until it was brought to my attention that they were not in fact HIS tracks. The album also features three impressive original songs. Although not credited, there is a female voice on several of the songs and whomever she is deserves a mention as she adds depth to the vocal production. It is very easy listening and is a CD I would be happy to play from start to finish.

Big Hand Recordings have produced this high quality album and it will be widely available from September 15 2014. There is also a launch party taking place on September 17 2014 at the Borderline, London where tickets are still available.
