Mr. Popper, a painter of modest means, dreams of taking an Antarctic adventure. So hes thrilled when a penguin named Captain Cook waddles out of a mysterious box left on his doorstep. The zookeeper donates a female companion and soonthe patter of 20 baby penguin feet!To feed all of these mouths, the imaginative Mr. Popper and his wife turn his talented penguins into a must-see traveling vaudeville act full of song and dance. But the rigors of performing take a toll on them all, and they must make a difficult decision.This musical play, featuring expert puppetry, depicts a wild and witty way to follow your dreamsand your convictions.

MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS Comes to Imagination Stage This Summer
May 19, 2022Imagination Stage brings Mr. Popper's Penguins to the stage from June 22 - August 7, 2022 promising the most fun kids will have inside this summer! Based on the 1939 Newbery Honor novel by Richard and Florence Atwater, the musical's book is by Robert Kauzlaric, with music and lyrics by George Howe.

Imagination Stage was founded as BAPA (Bethesda Academy of Performing Arts) in 1979 in response to the urgent need for arts education for young people. The company was renamed Imagination Stage in 2001 in anticipation of its move to its downtown Bethesda theatre arts center in 2003. Imagination Stage has grown from a handful of children in a single classroom to a full-spectrum theatre arts organization, with theatre productions by professional actors and artists. Unlike most children’s theatre companies, Imagination Stage commissions new works for children every year. These productions have been recognized with awards and productions by other companies around the world.
