Forum Theatre has announced that it will continue to house the Project Gym. Now in its second year the Project Gym serves DC performance-based artists as they work out their creative muscles.

Founded in 2012 by Forum Theatre Senior Dramaturg Hannah J. Hessel, the Project Gym 2013 Spring semester will run February 12 - June 16. Applications for the new semester are due February 4 and are available at http://theprojectgym.wordpress.com/ and http://forumtd.org/project-gym

In 2013, the Project Gym will be doubling the number of sessions and resources given to artists in order to make their memberships as rewarding as possible. Following the metaphor of a fitness center, memberships are available for artists who want to attend regular sessions or drop-in when they feel like they need the workout. Each of the sessions provides the opportunity for members to teach each other new skills and to work through their projects by being audience, collaborator and performer at once.

Participants in the 2012 semesters found that regular meetings improved their work, confidence and collaboration skills. Twenty artists of varying professional and artistic backgrounds participated in the past year of Project Gym. Theatre Maker and Educator Wyckham Avery shared "I think the most valuable thing is expanding my network." Playwright, Liz Maestri found that she carried "a new sense of confidence through the Gym that I was not expecting at all." Theater Maker and Avalanche Theatre Artistic Director Jon Jon Johnson shared that he "looked forward to getting that artistic jump-start to keep me fueled through the week, and it never once disappointed."
