Zeffirelli Film Of Verdi's 'Aida' At Lake Worth Playhouse

Verdi's Aida At the Lake Worth Playhouse July 27^th  

A screening of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, directed and designed by Franco Zeffirelli, will take place in the Lake Worth Playhouse's main stage auditorium on Sunday, July 27^th at 6:00 p.m.  The opera was first shown as part of the Opera at the Lake Worth Playhouse series in December 2007. 

The Zeffirelli production of Aida, which was recorded in front of a live audience at Milan's La Scala in High Definition television format with Dolby Digital sound, was the premier performance in the venerable opera house's 2006-2007 Season.  The production features the costumes of Maurizio Mellenotti and stars Roberto Alagna as Radames, Ildiko Komlosi as Amneris and Violeta Urmana in the title role.  Riccardo Chailly conducts La Scala's orchestra, chorus and ballet company. This is the production in which Roberto Alagna angrily left the stage during the opera's second performance; the recording was made on opening night – the only one Alagna completed.  

The Lake Worth Playhouse Italian Opera Series proved to be an extremely successful addition to the theatre's 2007-2008 schedule, and a second series is slated to begin in late fall. 

There will be an encore screening of the La Scala production of Verdi's La Traviata at The Playhouse on Friday, August 22^nd at 7:00 p.m.
