Roundabout Theatre Company will present the American premiere of The Overwhelming, written by J.T. Rogers (Madagascar, White People), directed by Max Stafford-Clark.

The Overwhelming will begin previews on Friday, September 28th and open officially on Wednesday, October 17th, Off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).  This is a limited engagement through December 23rd, 2007.

The cast and design team will be announced shortly.

The Overwhelming is, according to press notes, "the gripping story of an American family, newly arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, in early 1994, who come face-to-face with the realization that nothing and no one around them is what they understood it to be. Finding themselves embroiled in events beyond their understanding, three Americans struggle to discover who they can trust and what they will do when faced with matters of life and death."

The world premiere of The Overwhelming took place in May 2006 at London's Cottesloe Theatre, directed by Max Stafford-Clark, presented by The National Theatre in association with Out of Joint.  The acclaimed production then toured England throughout the summer and fall of 2006.

The Overwhelming will play Tuesday through Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. with Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Tickets will be available in August 2007 by calling Roundabout Ticket Services at (212)719-1300, online at www.roundabouttheatre.org or at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre box office (111 West 46 Street).  Ticket prices will be confirmed shortly.
